Pants-One Pattern Many Looks Hands-On 3 hrs. Sunday,Sept.28 8:30-11:30am

Using 1/4 scale patterns, explore and practice skills for refining fit, changing leg designs and adding your favorite designer details. Bring a picture    of a pair of pants you want to sew and practice the techniques that are most important to you and your fellow students. Gain skills to envision a pants pattern to fit you and make you look slimmer instantly. Using a selected model from the students, Kathy will show you how to take measurements and draft a custom pattern block.

Instantly Slimming Pants Friday, Sept.26 9:45-10:45am

Do your pants fit too loose in the thigh? Learn tricks from ready to wear construction and detailing techniques to give you a super slimming effect including pockets and a contoured waistband.

Recreate Your Favorite Garments  How To Create Patterns From Finished Garments Saturday, Sept.27 9:45-10:45am

Learn Kathy’s rules for copying sleeves, darts, seams and gathers for a whole new wardrobe, inspired by your favorite looks. Make the sewing     experience smoother and more gratifying, as you easily recreate garments in your own fusion of
styles and fabrics. Bring garments you want to copy to class.

Sheath Dress/Upper Body Fit Friday Sept. 26th & Sunday Sept 28 1:30-2:30pm

Discover how to select a pattern for this hot wardrobe staple. Camouflage your figure faults with Kathy’s approach to fit the upper body including the armhole, sleeve, bust and shoulder angle. Learn fast construction techniques for a fully lined dress, with or without sleeves, and an easy zipper closure.

Serger 911 Saturday, Sept.27 1:30-2:30pm

All serger owners and prospective owners need to know how the serger operates from the inside out. Learn about burrs, how width is used to improve stitches and how to create a perfect balanced-tension control strip. Dicover a sequential tension formula that works on many sergers thread types. A five-minute serger pocket that can be added to any pattern plus some fun project using a balanced stitch will be demonstrated.

Using a 1/4 scale pattern and with Kathy as your guide, explore and practice skills for refining fit, changing leg designs and adding details.

During this past summer’s vacation on her boat, Kathy was inspired to create a maxi dress. So, she went ashore one day, bought fabric and trim and returned to use her favorite tank top as a pattern. Voile! The perfect new summer dress! (She travels everywhere with her sewing machine, as you already guessed.) Join Kathy as she recreates this ‘use what you have’ process and learn alternate methods to refine fit, how to use finished garments as your pattern guide and some essentials about working with knits.

Kathy Ruddy, the creator of 5 Serger videos, will teach how to love your Serger. Learn easy thread
changing techniques. Learn what width and length is on your Serger and how to use them to fine tune your stitch patterns. Learn about differential feed and Lycra. Begin your class with pre-cut fabric pieces, and leave with completed samples of each technique for a Serger pocket, corners and circles, 10 minute tank top and Serger jacket
each crafted to teach you how to get the best from your Serger. This class is appropriate for all levels of sewers
The Kit: includes: pre-cut fabric samples and thread to use during the class.
All you need to bring to class are:Your Serger set for four thread balanced stitching, tested and working for a consistent 8” of balanced stitching sample placed under the needle of your Serger for me to check as you enter the
classroom. Also bring a power strip and extension cord. *Note If your machine cannot do this it has a timing issue, that must be checked and corrected by a repair man before class.
Student Supply List: a stapler, basic sewing supplies, scissors, , and pins.

Hands On Make It Today! Wear It Tonight! (1:30 pm- 5:30 pm)Friday October 24th, 2014 $49. Kit Fee: $20

Learn to draft, fit, and construct a bias-cut skirt any length you choose that can be put together in
as little as 45 minutes. It is flirty, swingy, perfect for dancing, and oh-so-flattering. Each student will leave class with a skirt pattern that  they adjust to fit themselves and the formula to adjust any future skirt pattern too! You will learn
how to cut and sew bias while Kathy demonstrates construction techniques. Learn cutting seaming and hemming bias using a machine hemming technique that is not only fast but used in couture sewing and a waist finish technique that inserts elastic and sews a waist casing, all in one step.

The Kit includes: instruction booklet, pattern and a pack of 10 drafting pens in different colors.

Student Supply List: Please bring to class, 3/8” elastic, tape measure, scissors, paper glue stik,and a ruler 2” X 18” see-through with 1/8”grid  If you have these, bring a 6” X 24” see thru ruler and an extra-long French Curve Ruler.

How to Create Patterns From Finished Garments  Saturday, Oct. 25th 8:30-10:30 am

This class on steroids (2hrs) gives Kathy double the time to show you and learn her rules forcopying clothes or their best details. See how Kathy copies selected garments brought to class(maybe yours!), and shows how to recreate details like sleeves, darts, pockets, seams and gathers to create a whole new wardrobe — inspired by your favorite looks. This technique makes the sewing experience smoother and more gratifying, as you easily recreate favorite elements of your wardrobe in your own fusion of styles and fabrics.

Supplies:Bring a favorite garment or piece with great details to class. There will be time to practice on your own garment. Bring these items to class: wax paper, pins, measuring tape, permanent felt marker, magic transparent tape, paper glue stick, paper scissors and a french curve ruler (available for purchase at class)

Learn a potpourri of small but important, time-tested ways to make your next project a huge success. Includes steps for everything from start to finish: how to plan, pick the best materials, cut,and stitch. Discuss the best tools for
speed, accuracy, and fun; learn to understand things like ease and fit preference, fabric checkpoints, why and when to pin-fit, about interfacing, seams and darts, sleeves and shoulder shaping. See? Lots of little steps for lots of big

Jackets!! The Ultimate Cover Up – Sunday,Oct.26th 2:30-3:30

Simply adding darts, pleats, gathers, seams or stretch to your garments can deliver better fit,comfort and style. Learn to add, increase or move darts; turn a basic jacket into one with a swinghemline, flattering to all hip shapes. Add pleats in the sleeve, add pleats, yokes and change collars, all to fit you better. Soon you will look great and feel more comfortable using your new pattern-fitting skills.
